I like to make a big deal out of nothing, for instance: out of a dot, a logo or a national flag. I enjoy deconstructing such ideas and designs to get to the basic elements to then reconstruct them into something new. This new proposal automatically questions the authority of the former state as well as the latter. In this transformation, which is usually very subtle, I explore the distance between the design as a collection of measurable elements and the design as a manifested ideology. This distance underlines the power of design as well as it reveals the problematic relationship between any form and the promise it holds.

Yuri Veerman (1982, Amstelveen) lives and works in Amsterdam.
