This workshop will be an introduction to sound : where is it from, where is it going, basics on how to record and place it into space, and allow first compositions.
This workshop is open to every student regardless of their knowledge on sound, music, and software Ableton Live.

I will be going through the basics and lead you into each step.
Sound can have an impact on any art practice when paired nicely and subtly, hence every discipline is welcome.

Maxime A.K.A. Delawhere
It is probably very complicated to precisely delineate the boundaries of Delawhere’s music. It is a fog that settles on the listener, which immerses him, protects him, makes him moves without him even realizing it. It is a sound and emotional journey with no departure nor arrival, far from the traditional experience of a pop record, and yet strangely accessible.

Behind Delawhere’s project hides Maxime Rogron, French musician, composer and producer. It was first through the classical piano that he discovered a passion for music, before falling into electro as a teenager. Driven by the desire to understand how the pieces and records he loves are made, Maxime begins to explore, and composes his first pieces. The formula hasn’t changed since its beginnings : the artist creates Delawhere’s music alone, using a piano as a base before working on the samples using a computer. Composition is approached like assembling a jigsaw puzzle, with small pieces forming endless possibilities together.

A rarity in instrumental electronic music, poetic discourse has a prominent place for Delawhere and is expressed through the titles of albums and tracks. It is the first creative step that precedes the composition, the on that defines the conceptual direction of his albums. Keep Infinity Going is a phrase that appeared in the mind of the musician while living in London. Sitting in a bus, he sees a backhoe moving an entire tree to plant it in another place in the city. This image is the starting point of a sound film that resolves around the idea of infinity and an experience of the sublime that surpasses us. In parallel with the creation of this album, the musician buys a Super 8 camera and films snippets of life which he considers sublime, and which feed this idea of infinity in perpetual motion.

With is music at the crossroads of synthetic pop, ambiant, electronica and film soundtracks, Keep Infinity Going develops varied atmospheres while releasing a deep homogeneity. Thus, Lakeside Terrace opens the album with a few evocative synthetic arpeggios, with skillfully dosed melancholy and distributed by a spatialization of sound at the heart of the listener’s feelings. The 80’s reminiscences of After All are disseminated with a minimalism that recalls the masters of the ambient of this era, before finding a definitively modern rhythmic energy. Heavy Times has a misleading title, as its structure resembles a balancing act where bass and strings create hypnotizing intertwining. Further, Deep Space Love lets hear another facet of Delawhere, where the effects of echoes and reverbs defy weightlessness.

Keep Infinity Going is an opportunity to discover the music of a craftsman at the crossroads of currents, whose purely instinctive inspiration updates an extremely personal, emotional and timeless music.

The release of the album will be completed by a video installation made from the shots filmed by the artist, and an algorithm developed to generate looped sequences, and always, to infinity.
