Duration per appointment: 5 hour.

MARIE-LUISE PITZL is an expert in the linguistic field of English as a Lingua Franca STUDIES (better known as ELF ). Pitzl studies the English that is spoken among people who do not (all) use it as a native langauge, in other words, the English that we use every day at the Sandberg Institute. In Pitzl’s terms, the Sandberg is an eminently ‘ELF enviroment’.
She will give a lecture about the history and concepts behind ELF and then elaborate on her specific research interests such as miscommunication, creativity, idiom variation, metaphor, corpus building and intercultural understandinG within spoken English.
After lunch there will be a short workshop around creativity and metaphor in English use. Pitzl has asked for every participant to present themselves and their work to her in English for about 5 minutes. Especially think about concepts, themes or issues from your own culture or language that you think influences your work. Also take into consideration that she is not familiar with art terminology or jargon.
We will reflect together on what was said and understood and what was not, due to what factors in ELF theory.
After the workshop, Marie-Luise will take time for two individual meetings with Fine Arts students for whom her area is specifically relevant. Please contact me if you want to meet her for a studiovisit.
