artist statement
Sculptor Kim Wawer (1988) has been exploring the space of the body.
Dig: Positive bodies

For her project ‘Dig’, she dug a series of holes, which were the size and scale of her body. They function as a breeding ground for ideas. ‘Dig’ has resulted in sculptural earth works, in writing, and now in a series of concrete and latex casts. ‘Dig’ approaches embodied space as an organic substance, and resulted in the instalation 'positive bodies' where human scale is the basis of each form. Their material gestures evoke a sense of earthly intimacy, in which form replaces the absent body.
