artist statement
In this imposed state of insecurity, all our options seem to be untrustworthy.
The Black Box Bellagio

Play with the (un)fairness of expected values and chances, predicted risks, and giving up your identity. This casino won’t take your money, but is after your integrity and freedom. Take a seat at one of our playing tables and place your bets. In this ‘casino of life’, all outcomes of the wager are immediate and known, but what outcome affects your behavior will remain unknown. The house is always one step ahead; The house always seems to win.

The Black Box Bellagio has been showcased in different forms. On 19 May 2017, it was hosted as a casino in Frascati Theater. Visitors were able to play games by betting private smartphone data. During the the graduation show, The Black Box Bellagio is part of a sports bar, realised at the Shelter. It is shown as a live television event, hosting a surreal World Poker series (but with altered rules).
