biography
Hanna Valle is an artist and designer working with moving image, sculpture and online platforms, creating visceral material formations, visual and textual experiments. Focusing on the topics of fantasy, environment, labour and lyricality, Valle gives shape to strange narratives. Her practice forms a transforming zone, where personal and political intertwine intuitively. Through speculative landscapes, she seeks new connections and meanings.
Offspring
Hanna Valle’s (Vantaa, Finland, 1988) installation Offspring is a test ground for tactile experiments. It is a science fiction story about pulsing objects and alien parenthood, – the relationship of the sculptor’s physical labour and the beings on the table. Through Offspring, Valle imagines different multi-species’ continuous journeys on Earth, moving across various landscapes and different times , while carrying the burden of an environmentally violent past. As the illegitimate descendant of the human designer, Offspring deals with the questions of (historical) transformation, co-dependency and care. Following the traces of yet-unknown organisms – bodies entwined with the environment reminiscences of trauma and terror – Valle maps uncanny scenes, where socioecological tensions take form, materialize and speak.
