Pedro understands spaces of intimacy as ‘iridescent bodies’. These spaces are assembled in-between the familiar and the stranger - vulnerable, dependent, fragmented and multiple. Pedro’s performative methodologies explore the potentiality and vitality of matter, bodies and their agency.
The question of how can a space be iridescent in its identity, submerges Pedro’s current investigation of materiality and space.
Pedro Matias’ (Lisbon, Portugal, 1984) They said: ‘I’ was never an island is a colorful installation bathing in pink light. The bright and fluorescent colors are at the same time candy-like, dystopian and other-worldly. To enter Matias’ installation is a psychedelic experience: “From far, all islands are skin and bones. surrender into the soft matter until we have no shape. Slow sun rises. Eternal sunsets.” said Matias.
