To be held while taking shape is about the playful yet exhausting experience of shapeshifting. It is a place of rest for characters that are shedding the burden of representation. Simultaneously, it is a questioning of the scientific gaze of the artist. Wire is used as the primary medium, forming malleable characters that take on different conformations, bursting outwards while collapsing inwards. Unfixed to the surface they rest on. A video projection illuminates the space. It shows a strand of aluminum wire being studied under a microscope, in an attempt to find the essence of the characters’ multiplicity. The seating arrangement and accompanied soundscape invites viewers to ponder the links between matter, meaning, and measure.
