Micaela Terk is an artist and writer-publisher based in Amsterdam. Her work uses performative research into and against choreographies of institutional power, by opening up the correlations between sensing and moving in educational and working environments. Micaela uses formats such as workshops, publications, and event curation to question traditionally valued forms of knowledge production and emanation.
Relatively, Speaking is a durational performance that turns to words for its score and structure. The work opens up the editing process of a collective lexicon-in-progress, pieced together by the artist over the past year in an attempt to document her experiences with somatic pedagogy.
Relatively, Speaking playfully shares an ongoing research into what happens when bodily knowledges are collectively and consciously practiced within spaces of institutional power. The work holds space for experimentation and experience. By offering subtle gestures, humorous whispers, and calls to (sensory) attention Micaela Terk seeks to undermine familiar patterns of moving and doing within the exhibition space. Where relationships between words and knowledge are stretched, association or misassociation become an impetus of action for both performer and visitor.
