Here, there and everything in between
In my work I would like to say something about identity, multiple belongings and distance through a sensorial parcours installation that is reactionary and documentary. I would like my audience to experience the sonic unfolding of my work in time as they walk through a 8 min sound walk, listening to a collage of sounds from here and there - a parallel motion that relates movement when capturing field recordings - forming a loop that is ambient and sometimes loud, going through a journey of different chapters to experience what my sense of place is. Using sounds as a form to make home. I would like to share a story about what home feels like in different spaces and also capture this sense of displacement by capturing sounds of transit spaces for example. Home that is not necessarily comfort but also the noise and chaos of cars and motorcycles, people talking loudly and sometimes traumatic experiences. In parallel it can also translate the calmness of the mediterranean sea and chirping birds that evokes a meditative or transcendental state. Listening is often driven by a desire for understanding. It's an attempt to make associations, to recognize the sound as familiar to what we hear into known categories. Field recording is one tool that enhances critical listening, using environmental sources as compositional tools. The soundscapes of different locations depend on the movement of the listener. Movement and memory is key in this installation as it affects how the listener will hear the sounds and understand the piece as a whole. In my project I would like to answer how sound and deep-listening shape our experiences, memories, relationships, identities, and wellbeing.
