biography
A designer exploring the question of how our bodies mediate coexistence. Her works engage with topics of self-representation, identity and labour, through the cinematic, video, animation, graphic design, sound and text. Her lexicon ranges from home-video to personal archives in low and high resolution. She employs practices of describing, observing, re-framing and negotiating as methods to own and reclaim knowledge. The work emerges after a 2-year, domestic-ethnographic research. In an attempt to find proof of what it means to practice care, Carmen develops an obsession to observe and capture her mother’s journey towards a precarious retirement. What began as a socio-economic study of female poverty in Spain, led to an intimate negotiation of a mother-daughter relationship.
