“Anastasija (Nastija) Kiake’s practice is attuned to these “intimacies,” and primarily tasks itself—through mediums as varied as text, performance, video, painting, and sculpture—with carving out a poetics of detecting and remembering forgotten instances of violence in the Baltic region. The geographical focus of their work, however, lends itself to a particular interpretation, insofar as it is engaged through a decolonial lens that remains shyly explored in artistic production and academic output concerned with the post-Soviet condition.”
