“By calling attention to the network of pipes and cables that facilitate the constant flow of external resources in and out of the courthouse, they reveal the building’s bodily functions—its dependence on water, gas, and electricity. Symbolically, the small crevices they opened challenge the modernist precepts that govern the courthouse and its austere and compartmentalized architecture. Within these holes and openings, the duo inserted delicate but disruptive ornamental pieces attached to formerly hidden pipes and sockets. These discrete jewelry arrangements of chains, kitschy pendants and medallions, heart-shaped trinkets, and charms spelling out the word “love” come to adorn the building and extend our perception.”
