Matteo Viviano+
“The concept of home is vast and never objective. Both Emilie Bordes and Matteo Viviano come from different islands. Traditions last better there; however, by now, much of the identity of their islands have been swallowed by globalization. Taking a critical position against the unification of the domestic—of furniture—and of what is called “a home,” Bordes and Viviano ask: what is the role of craftsmanship under these conditions? By embracing globalized, cheap, and common household objects as their given materials, they create furniture out of standard broomsticks or generic wallpapers—materials available at a regular DIY store. Although these materials are not technically considered “natural” sources, they take on a confusing and familiar sense of purity in the context of a globalized urban habitat that vitalizes them.”
