“Evolving through various coastal landscapes described by one of the biologists in the film as “cultural nature,” the explorer attempts to decolonize her approach to the surrounding landscape. The sand dunes and mudscapes customarily depicted in traditional Dutch paintings become alternative geographies—physical sites where “the explorer” tries to reclaim and embody new geographical imaginaries.”
Excerpt from an essay on Olya Korsun by Emile Rubino
