biography
In his work, van Gelder uses humor as a tool to unearth frictions between compounds of reality and fiction, representation and misrepresentation by combining different iterations of performative research and infectious role-plays. He reconfigures provocative tropes within pop-culture in a (hyper)reality show of distorted nonhuman characters that question authenticity and reveal layers of depth in the superficial. No Title
I tried yanking my legs out of their sockets, dislocating them and putting them elsewhere useful. I tried growing extra tall, growing extra flesh. Eating bugs to muster extra power. Holding my breath and biting my teeth and moving my rotting vessel towards a way out. I remember I cried and felt guilty and angry about crying since this would defeat the objective to evolve into a normal stoic human that muffles its tears.Special thanks: Ötzi
