Horizon’s Eye is part of an ongoing inquiry into identity in relation to migratory heritage. It addresses displacement and suspension by remixing Surinamese visual language and lore in an attempt to fuse different modes of diasporic belonging. The harpy eagle is one node within this network of cultural meaning: a bird of prey commonly found in the Surinamese rainforest, and the subject of oral histories and myths, cast in the role of both protector and predator.
