Lasi Lanti
Lasi Lanti is a video work unpacking memory, generational displacement and with this, the gradual loss of a motherland. The installation consists of a 1080p video lasting 4 minutes and 44 seconds which is on loop. The sound of the Surinamese rainforest (Amazone) runs continuously, with birdsong inviting the audience into a meditative state through its repetition.
Voice enters at moments speaking in Sranagtongo, offering reflective remarks on a life lived in retrospect.
Commissioned by EYE Filmmuseum for Researchlabs, the work was presented as part of The Unreliable Narrator, a collaboratively curated program developed with Anna Theunissen, Anabel Perez, and Yaima Carrazana, which received first prize for Best Curated Program.
