Spit Shrine
Spit Shrine is a three-day participatory art project by artist duo Transparent Afternoon, unfolding within the urban crevices surrounding Shanghai’s Rockbund Art Museum. Through a blend of lecture-performance, rituals, workshops, and sound art, the project engages cross-cultural mythologies, folklore, and the ongoing processes of gentrification. It examines how urban space, bodies, and histories are cleansed, sanitized, and displaced. Working through the visceral acts of chewing and spitting, Spit Shrine centers on the fermentative and generative power of saliva, reimagines filth as renewal, and reclaims the margins as sites of genesis.
