a living sacrifice
This live performance is a "living sacrifice" that directly confronts geopolitical displacement and the bureaucratic control of restrictive immigration laws. Drawing thematic resonance from Eid al-Adha, the visceral work positions the artist exposed and earth-coated on the floor beneath a suspended cut of raw meat. As red blood from the hanging flesh toward the grounded body, the environment initially mirrors an execution. Yet, in a profound physical escalation, the artist’s own legs are hoisted and suspended by heavy chains. By turning the exact mechanisms of systemic control into a ritual of agency, the performance transforms into a definitive declaration of bodily sovereignty. It asserts that if the body must be suspended to survive the system, the artist will be the one choosing the chains. This is an unflinching testament to self-ownership: No government owns my body. I am the only sovereign of my own skin. I belong to myself.
