Sorrowful Mysteries: Mary Magdalene, or: the Saint
2026, performance, 45 minutes & edition of 20 13-page scored relics
As part of Limburgs Museum & van Bommel van Dam, Venlo - with Jackie Galama & Willem van der Veer
‘Sorrowful Mysteries: Mary Magdalene, or: the Saint’ is a collaborative performance and scored relic developed following a temporary intimate encounter. Initially rooted in liturgical scoring, the rosary, and the Gospel of Mary, the work explores devotion through ritual endurance, bodily synchronization, and control.
As the collaboration has developed, its focus has shifted from script-based ritual toward acoustic and sensory presence. Sound and touch function as material forces rather than carriers of language. Moving through cycles of repetition, obstruction, and collapse, the work questions whether ritual can produce change or merely restage existing structures.
