Flikkerdisco
2026-ongoing, series of club nights comprising of music, performance, film & installation
With Lucas Boerwinkel, Luisa Gouder, Alina Softensy & Tim Daniël Stienstra
In the 1970s, the VERA Flikker*groep began making space for queer life and nightlife in Groningen. There was something very practical and very radical about it: creating a place to meet, dance, resist, and find comradery when there were not many places to do so. Especially in light of de Roze Revolutie, the mark and loss it left are historic. I’ve been breathing new life and co-organizing this new series of nights; through installation, curation, and (upcoming) zines we’ve been exploring this peculiar Groninger queer history. I’ve become increasingly interested in what remains when a place like this has existed for long enough to acquire its own memory.
A club night can have an archive. Sometimes the archive is a flyer or a photograph. Sometimes it is a setlist. Sometimes it is simply the fact that people are still gathering in the same place, decades later, for some of the same reasons.
