You are invited to a public talk by Lola Olufemi, a Black feminist writer and researcher based in London, invited through our temporary department Monstrous Futurities. This talk will take place at the Theory Stairs in the FedLev Building of Sandberg Instituut on Thursday, 4 June between 18:00 and and 20:00 – open to all.
“THIS IS A TEMPORAL LANDSCAPE, YOU WILL FIND NO DIRECTION HERE.”
Abstract: Reflecting on the process of co-creating a digital assemblage titled “THIS IS A TEMPORAL LANDSCAPE, YOU WILL FIND NO DIRECTION HERE” with engineer Agnes Cameron in 2024, this presentation considers the possibilities offered by relational aesthetic practices, experimental poetics and materialist engagement with the imagination in responding to the affective dimensions of an increasingly fascistic present. It explores how engagement with the material of radical social movements as part of relational aesthetic strategy opens up new ways of thinking and moving against the material and symbolic violence of capitalism.
The talk lands at a hinge in Monstrous Futurities' curriculum, as Semester 2’s practices of (un)making begin opening toward Semester 3’s work of de/composing wor(l)ds otherwise.
