Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design Successfully Reaccredited  Sandberg

The Gerrit Rietveld Academie's Master's programme in Fine Art and Design and Master in Interior Architecture offered by Sandberg Instituut are accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO).  

We are pleased to share that on 26 January 2026, the NVAO confirmed the continued accreditation of the Master of Fine Arts and Design including  the special attribute ‘Small-scale Intensive Education’ (BKKI). The NVAO based its decision on the positive visitation report produced by an external panel of experts following its visit to the academy on 25 and 26 June 2025. 

At Sandberg Instituut, the departments of Design, Critical Studies, Dirty Art Department, Fine Art and all Temporary Departments lead to the Master of Arts in Fine Art and Design (MA). The department Studio for Immediate Spaces leads to a Master in Interior Architecture (MA) which is accredited separately. This means that students from both programmes receive a recognised Master’s degree on successful completion of their studies, they can apply for study financing, and their studies are largely funded by the government. 

Every six years, a re-accreditation takes place to examine whether each programme (still) meets the quality requirements. An independent panel, consisting of members who have knowledge of the field and of education, visits the academy for this purpose.  

Through discussions with students, department heads, tutors, alumni and other stakeholders at the academy, as well as viewing a sample of student files and policy documents and attending the 2025 graduation show, the external panel gained a good impression of the quality of the programme and presented its findings in the assessment report. Based on thisthe NVAO assessed the quality of the programme as positive, and meeting the criteria for the specialfeature of Small-scale Intensive Education.  

The next accreditation for the Master in Interior Architecture will take place in 2027 and the next accreditation for Master in Fine Arts and Design will take place in 2031.
