My practice stems from a dissident body (fat, non-binary, ill, queer and feminist) which I regard as a tool, a frontier and a territory. From this vantage point, I explore how the intimate becomes political and how a personal experience can raise collective questions. I am interested in space as a living phenomenon where bodies inhabit, move and influence one another. I work with images that both articulate and denounce, capable of unsettling and moving the viewer at the same time. I build upon tensions that I do not seek to resolve: rest and exposure, tenderness and violence, critique and appropriation of the hegemonic. This contradictory territory is the driving force behind my work.
I develop multidisciplinary processes that arise from the connection between the body, time and materiality. Performance and video performance allow me to determine how my presence is observed and perceived. Drawing, with its immediacy and fluidity, is a space of refuge and constant experimentation. Depending on the requirements of a project, I incorporate techniques such as embroidery, sculpture or repetitive choreographies that explore bodily awareness. In each piece, I reinterpret and challenge the systems that shape me, and I seek to ensure that the materials and formats respond to desire rather than to inertia.
I believe in art as a space for fostering connections and resistance. My projects may stem from personal wounds, but they branch out into dialogues with communities and people outside the world of contemporary art. For me, creating is an act of insistence: an affirmation that other sensibilities are possible. Time, the body and error are my main tools, and I aim for each work to be an invitation to inhabit the collective through intimacy, listening and critical imagination.
