The Broken Pitcher: A Soundbank
The Broken Pitcher: A Soundbank is an ongoing sound-performance, drawing from the eponymous film, ‘The Broken Pitcher’ (2022), and the vinyl record released by Moneda in 2023. The original performances (Limassol, 2022; Munich, 2023) repetitively undertook actions like stamping and signing, bureaucratic filing, and drawn-out uses of narration, with the intention of showcasing the mundane “corporate- fordist” labour that underpins modern banking systems and finance capitalism. Through the repetition of these actions, legal framework and infrastructures emerged as the semiotic abstractions that bind material bodies and livelihoods together.
The third iteration of the sound-performance featured Emiddio Vasquez and gervaise alexis savvias, and took place at de Appel (Amsterdam) in March 2026 in the context of The Broken Pitcher exhibition’s Closing Forum. On this occasion, the duo explored the sonic materiality of various tools, instruments and objects that would frequently be found at an office desktop with the intention of questioning indexicality, language, sound and opticality as they are frequently instrumentalised in the mystified space of the bankroom.
