In Do, Violeta Mayoral investigates the behavior of small phenomena —those whose duration is brief and which are difficult to perceive— within a given environment. It is at this scale in which the artist observes an important movement: the ability of small bodies to orient us toward the world and to help situating ourselves within a self that indicates belonging to a larger system.

The two pieces that make up the exhibition reveal how a complex, interdependent system is sustained, shifting the aesthetic question toward one of listening and seeing, through a process of reduction to their minimal expression of existence and a careful use of basic techniques and tools.

The thread that vertically crosses the main space was extracted from a fabric using the weft-unraveling technique and painted with the color palette of the exterior elements which were visible from the space’s windows. The sound that forms the second piece in this exhibition corresponds to a recording of a gust of wind that passed through Halfhouse gallery space via its windows, reduced to the minimum time necessary for its existence: 19 milliseconds.
