Violeta Mayoral (Spain, 1988) is an artist based in Barcelona and Amsterdam. She approaches photography as a space of autonomy from which to enter and exit image, incorporating performative, sonic, and sculptural dimensions as metaphors of the gaze. Through the event and listening as methodologies, her work revolves around understanding the regimes of meaning that are articulated through the paradigm of vision and acoustic experience.

Currently, her research aims toward the intangible —that which lies beyond the frameworks of the consumable and is often relegated to the periphery— as a way to reconfigure our modes of attention and to challenge many of the constructs that shape the way we exist in the world.

She studied Communication at the University of Barcelona, with a specialization in Semiotics at UNAM (Mexico City). Since 2019 her work has been represented by ethall gallery (Barcelona), where she presented her first solo exhibition that same year.

Her work has been shown at institutions including MACBA (Barcelona), Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Barcelona), Fundació Joan Miró (Barcelona), Espai d’Art Contemporani de Castelló (EACC), Festival Grec (Barcelona), Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A, Córdoba), Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC, Seville), Halfhouse (Barcelona), Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), La Capella (Barcelona), Centre d’Art Tecla Sala (L’Hospitalet de Llobregat), Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid), and at galleries such as Palmadotze (Barcelona) and L21 (Mallorca).

She has participated in contemporary art fairs including Art-o-rama (Marseille), Luxembourg Art Fair, ARCO (Madrid), and SWAB (Barcelona), among others.
