Performance, 30’

Le Théâtre, Scène nationale de Mâcon, Mâcon, France

A co-production of Le Théâtre, Scène nationale de Mâcon, within the French national project CURA: visual arts and national stages. Curated by Magalie Meunier.

TOTAL 3, presented for the first time at Le Théâtre, Scène nationale de Mâcon, France, is the final part of the TOTAL trilogy, in which Violeta Mayoral investigates the states of attention in listening at the limits of sonic materiality through three acoustic situations. In this iteration, the artist focuses on how listening is shaped within a specific acoustic context, exploring the relationship between the perception of scale and the distance of the sound source.

In TOTAL 3, the composition emphasizes the energy of touch—from friction to impact—and is realized as a performance with flamenco dancers Iván Góngora and Neus González Blanco, and Arnau Sala Saez on percussion.

Whereas in TOTAL 1 five musicians performed a composition for an audience located 600 meters away onin the Montjuïc mountain, and in TOTAL 2 different brass instruments were played at the minimum volume possible (pianissimo), in TOTAL 3 the audience is placed under the theater’s wooden stage while a series of rhythmic events unfold above.
